Abstrak :

The burst of mud volcano from the oil exploration well in Porong -Sidoarjo on June 2006 have been drowning 4 villages. Other three settlements surround the 4 villages also flooded by the mud. (P. Setijanti et al, 2007). Thousands housing vanished along with their rhythm of life and established social setting. Today, after more than one year, no one can predict when will the mud-volcanos be stopped. This condition distressing the inhabitants of the area. As the UNCHS ratification stated; safety and life are two fundamental rights. Hence rescuing people is the main issue of the disaster.

The discussion present in this paper deal with the solutions of temporary shelters and housing for the mud volcano disaster victims. The solutions were based on the field survey done by the "Laboratory for Housing and Human Settlements", Department of Architecture ITS.
